It's rare that a number can't be ported, but if this does happen we'll contact you for alternative arrangements. You should receive the new cell phone before the number transfer has been completed so that there is no interruption in service. STEP 2. After you receive your new cellular phone the number should be transferred within 24 hours. You'll be able to check the status of the transfer request online in real-time. STEP 3. Once you phone number has been ported to your new phone and carrier you will no longer be able to use the number with your previous carrier.
